Animal Fighting Bill Heads to President to be Signed into Law

Steve Irwin Wrist Bands

I am sure I am not alone in saying that I was deeply saddened by the loss of wildlife expert and advocate Steve Irwin this past year.  The Crocodile Hunter dedicated his life to helping people understand and love wildlife of all kinds, including his beloved crocs.  The respect and caring he had for animals and their safety was evident in every one of his shows and he was truly a teacher in every definition of the word.  As he once said (I'm paraphrasing, not quoting!), people save what they love so if we teach them to love wildlife, we can save wildlife.

Maine's New Law To Help Battered Women and the Pets They Don't Want to Leave Behind

As the owner of an Austin pet sitting business, I've seen several instances where women instruct us that an estranged spouse cannot have access to the house or pets.  This is always a hard situation for us, and a frightening one too.  I'm not very comfortable with the thought of one of my sitters having to try to keep someone out of the home on their own.  We've been lucky not to have had a confrontation yet, and none of the spouses have had a history of violence or domestic abuse (if they had, I couldn't ask my sitters to get involved!).  It is good to know that at least one state is seeing this issue and offering help to women who need it.
