I have four dogs and with the Texas heat, we aren't able to get them as much exercise as they're used to. Of course, we go to local parks that have rivers and lakes to swim in with them a couple of days a week and they get walks in the morning and late night after it cools off outside, but their days are getting longer and more boring!
If you're experiencing the same problem, you'll love making your dog popsicles to beat the heat! There are a few ways you can do this.
I use sterilized, hollow bones that I buy at my local petstore. They are pre-sterilized and my vet has ok'd them for all of my dogs. I then pack the hollow centers with things like plain yogurt mixed with mushed banana, plain yogurt mixed with peanut butter, or apple sauce mixed with canned dog food. I stick these in the freezer and serve them as popsicles during the day when they need a break from the boredom.
Another way you can do this is by taking the same mixtures and putting them into small paper cups. Freeze these and then peel the cps off before serving them to your dog. These are a little messier so you may want to serve them outside on the lawn or on a porch or patio.
Check with your vet before serving any of these to make sure they're safe for your dogs! Then, sit back and watch your dog enjoy the fun!
